New system of results for competitors

August 6, 2015 Articles

In 2015 the NCF changed for the method of using raw scores to one of using a ranking system for the Sweet Soca, Party Monarch and Pic-o-de-Crop competitions and this is why the scores announced for the competitors seemed so “low”. In fact they are not low, just different.

Let’s take a look at the Pic-o-de-Crop final for example –

The judging criteria is as follows –

Lyrics – 35 points
Melody – 35 points
Rendition – 25 points
Presentation – 5 points

With a total of 5 judges, this meant that the possible maximum raw score would be 500 points (which was never attained), but scores would range from the 300s to 400s.

With the ranking approach, the judges still use the criteria above but then the scores are ranked and given points as below –

Place Points
1 20
2 16
3 14
4 12
5 10
