No unattached calypsonians to be judged this year
Only calypsonians that are members of a calypso tent will be judged this year. This is a departure from last year's decision to allow unattached calypsonians to be judged for the Party Monarch and Pic-o-de-Crop competitions.

In a statement sent to the Weekend Nation, Acting Corporate Communications Specialist of the National Cultural Foundation (NCF), Mr. Wayne Simmons stated that the enormous cost of producing these events along with the poor response by calypsonians to the accommodation offered to them through the exercise, has led the NCF to discontinue the practice.

Are they too many tents?
This question was raised today on CBCs Festival Stage hosted by Admiral Nelson and Larry Mayers. The hosts along with their guests, Clairmonte “Pompey’ Pilgrim and Sinclair Gittens, the head of the Barbados Association of Tent Managers (BATMAN), got into a heated discussion on the quality of calypso in Barbados and it’s probable link to the large number of calypso tents.
